Freshly-squeezed juice at the refreshed new Annabel’s
At Zummo London, we’re always delighted when an iconic establishment wants to install one of our Z40 juicers – and there are few places quite as legendary as the Mayfair club, Annabel’s.
The private members’ club has just moved into its new premises at 46 Berkeley Square, two doors down from its original home. The elegant Grade II listed building boasts seven bars, four restaurants, two private rooms and a cigar salon; and for the first time, Annabel’s will be open day and night for its members, from breakfast until 4 in the morning (arguably, still breakfast).
Annabel’s, one of the best-known names among London’s elite clubs, was launched by Mark Birley in 1963, and named after his then-wife, Lady Annabel Vane-Tempest-Stewart. Annabel’s began life in the basement of 44 Berkeley Square (beneath The Claremont Club) and remained in its underground home until last month’s relocation. In 2007, the Birley Group sold the club to Richard Caring, who owns a collection of prestigious restaurants including The Ivy and the Soho House group (another client of Zummo London).
The £55m refit of the new premises includes The Garden, a beautiful restaurant with a glass-covered terrace. However, many of the new spaces have retained Annabel’s signature decadent feel, with soft lighting, rich textures, and a plenty of gilt. The well-preserved Palladian architecture of number 46 has been treated sensitively, providing an elegant backdrop for Martin Brudnizki’s interior designs.
As well as relaunching as an all-day private club, the new Annabel’s is reaching out to younger members. There’s a reduced joining fee for members under 27; and the the lively new Mexican restaurant and larger nightclub space appeal to younger guests. With so many restaurant and bars, as well as a young, cocktail-loving clientele, the demand for juice is high. So, the revamped Annabel’s opened with some fantastic quality juicers from Zummo London.
The Zummo Z40 we installed at Annabel’s is already working hard, juicing oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruits for the whole club. Annabel’s mixologists have created menus of reimagined classics, as well as new cocktails exclusive to the Mayfair club. And of course, now Annabel’s is open during the day, members popping in for breakfast or a light lunch may simply prefer a glass of freshly-squeezed juice with their meals.
The new Mexican restaurant has increased the need for fresh fruit juice – you can’t have a Latino-themed bar without a good supply of limes! The new restaurant on the second floor offers laid-back Mexican food during the day, then at night, the DJ arrives and the fiesta begins. As well as a fabulous cocktail menu, the Mexican has Europe’s largest tequila collection – as we said, they’re going to need a lot of limes…
Annabel’s legendary dancefloor has expanded to fit its new space – but has kept its subterranean vibe in the basement of number 46. The adjoining Jungle Bar also keeps the Zummo Z40 busy, as do the Garden Room and Garden Restaurant on the ground floor. These tropical foliage-filled spaces provide the perfect background for a refreshing fresh juice. Thanks to the retractable roof, guests can enjoy a late-night cocktail under the stars, whatever the London weather is doing that evening.
If you run a nightclub, restaurant, café or bar and would like to know more about the Zummo Z40 commercial juicer, please get in touch with Zummo London.
